The Shadow King's War
Destrat is a small nation in the north of Tyrmouth consisting primarily of pastoral grassland, moors and a few enormous mountains rich with natural resources. Destradians are proud warriors and horsemen, but are in general more concerned with trading the wealth of their peaks for imported luxuries. Though few in number, they as a culture have mastered open plains cavalry strategy, most notably the potent combination of tactical withdrawal/arrow storm. Their mountains are said to be riddled with sanctuaries only occupied during times of domestic strife (usually war).
Destrat is divided into four fiercely independent city-states that have a sort of mutual defensive pact, where when they feel their nation as a whole is threatened they will band together to defend it. Otherwise they are free to compete, and rarely is their any outright cooperation without cutthroat competition. Ashwin is far spread over the plains and moors to the south and western lands, Corwin takes up the rich coastline to the east, while Ylwin and Leywin hold domain over the two far-reaching mountain ranges of the north.
The city-states can each decide how they dole out executive power, each of them coming to the conclusion that with such generally small and centralized populations they can have each man have a say in who leads: Every time the moon occults the sun there is a vote by every man and woman of each city-state, a simple majority chooses who will be Warden until the next vote.
While the laws of the land may be created and enforced by the Warden and his men, the punishments are handled by an enigmatic figure who serves as both the singular judge and the spiritual leader of all in Destrat: The Horselord. The horselord lives a base and aescetic life, carrying only what he can carry on a horse he’s tamed with his own hands and eating only what is given to him by the people of Destrat. He wanders a circular path through each of the city-state, as he passes through his circuit he dispenses justice to the criminals that have been caught since his last visit. They have one of three choices: Death, Exile, or becoming his Disciple, joining him on his circuit for the rest of their life or until he sees fit that they have served their purpose.
